Wills Projects

Wills Projects are a tandem art and design team based in Tarntanya Adelaide on unceded Kaurna Yerta. Partners in life and work, the duo's practice interweaves inclusivity, care and collaboration. Their shifting and responsive methodology of practice emerges from their background in collective actions. Will Cheesman, living in squats in Europe and working in remote Indigenous communities and Laura Wills studying Buddhism in Nepal and joining forest activist rides around Australia. They interweave their art practice with studies of Queer Permaculture, seasonal rituals and outdoor living.

Often collaborating with scientists, designers and makers they regularly develop large scale artworks for public space. These works are participatory and have ephemeral elements that are inspired by nature and connected to local environments. Their contemporary practice regularly responds to setting and community which contributes to the development of emergent ideas. Current research interests include symbiotic relationships, mycelium, weeds, mapping and food issues.

They have exhibited together since 2006 at places like Project Space CACSA, Cemeti Art House Yogykarta and Feltspace Adelaide. Recent projects include Tree Dreaming 2023, Create4Adelaide WCHospital, Wing Story 2023, Scotch College, Understory 2022, Post Office Projects, Port Adelaide, Weeds Weeding 2023, Heysen Sculpture Biennial, Until the Cows Come Home 2024, public art for Rural City of Murray Bridge, and Sea Stars 2022, sculptures embed into the Port Noarlunga Jetty, City of Onkaparinga.
