Luci the Giant Caterpillar, 2022, Wills Projects, SA Museum

Recycled steel, recycled cardboard, cotton, paint

A large scale sculptural form representing the caterpillar of the Chequered Copper Butterfly (CCB). The caterpillar was installed in front of the museum as part of the hub of the Nature festival. It carried the narrative of the CCB life cycle linking to the nearby VR experience and supported the adjacent QR activation point. The sculpture was roughly 1000 times larger than life size and highlighted the symbiotic relationship between the chequer copper butterfly larvae, native ants and native sorrel.

Commissioned by Herding Caterpillars.
